I did this in an 8 x 8 and really liked the abstract effect and wanted to try it on a larger scale. I think I still like it, and it definitely has more punch in this size.

Toronto Financial District, Summer

This painting proved to be very dificult, mostly due to working out the temperature and colours of the sidewalk and road. I also kept thinking that there should have been more dark value to balance it out. 

This scene is from Bay Street in the Financial District of Toronto, the Deloitte Building on the left.

 

Streetcar Parade, Queen and University

A very busy evening commute had traffic backed up for blocks. Three streetcars passed by at the same time, providing some nice colours and reflections.

This streetcar parade is at the corner of Queen and University with the window of the Four Seasons centre for the Performing Arts at the right.

Under the Gardiner,Toronto

Toronto's Gardiner Expressway runs along the lake and divides the city of Toronto from Lake Ontario. Not a great idea, but when it was built no one was concerned about the industrial lands along Lake Ontario. Now of course, with condos along the water and much of the industry gone, everyone wants the Gardiner gone.

I liked the way the concrete pillars receded into the distance on this messy day. Without a lot of interest in the concrete highway of the foreground, I got out my palette knife to create texture and some interest.

When I find out that I have been accepted into a show, its as if everything else in my life goes on hold and my total focus goes toward preparation for the show. It doesn't matter how many paintings I may have in the studio, there are always some that I want to get done. I recently received notice that I am accepted into the Toronto Outdoor Art Show at Nathen Phillips Square in downtown Toronto. This is a great show, and I feel honoured to be a part of it this year.
