12x12 oil on canvas
In the previous posting, using the limted palette, I was able to convey a gray misty feeling. The challenge with this picture was to convey the same feeling even though I was adding more colors. I knew it would be difficult to maintain "color harmony" with the variety of colors in my photo reference and I didn't want to change the taxi color as it is typical Toronto colors. I did tone down the colors of the taxi in the foreground, and kept the greens of the trees muted. I'm still wondering if it looks too bright for a rainy day.....so complicated!
Taxis wait at Union Station in Toronto for pedestrians escaping from the rain, while others head down the stairs to catch the Go Train.

I think you have captured the wet rainy day perfectly. The wet street, gray skies, yellow taxis, it all works.

like the diagonal lines too....
So much happening in this painting and even though its a rainy scene, you have pulled off successfully with so many colors :)
Another bold, dynamic design. Fantastic!
Great job! This is really nice. Another alternative as a limited palette is using Terra Rosa as your red. You can get some really beautiful color combinations with this muted platte, and the the terra rosa is already muted, so you might find it easier than cadmium red if you are going truly muted. Great job so far!
how do you turn a cold rainy street into a warm sparkly inviting one? You certainly did it here...super!
masterful, that's about it!
Your street scenes are always superb Catherine! The rainy feel with the wet reflections on the sidewalk....perfect!
Fantastic painting, Catherine. That perspective really draws you in. Perfect reflections - beautiful.
Just as Raymond Chandler caught the spirit of LA in language, you capture the northern and northeastern shores of Lake Ontario.
And like a "film noir", this is sometimes a "palette grise"...
Great painting, and very believable!! The reflections are brighter now that it is spring, you also feel the bustle of city life in the rain!!
