Orange Glow

28x18 Oil on board
Hamilton and Burlington are home to the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens. We have the most beautiful iris garden(called the Laking Garden) with every shade of iris one can imagine. I took some photos in the evening and caught this orange beauty as the sun was setting. I painted this a couple of years back and my focus was more realistic with tight edges.
There is a month and a half to go before the show, and so I am working like mad to get the pictures completed that I hoped to take. Its summer...I want to relax!!!!!! Oh well.

Breathtaking! What a glow. Very beautifully handled Catherine. RBG is fantastic isn't it? Need to get there - missed the tulips and lilacs this year.

Beautiful painting with stunning light! When I first saw it I thought "wow, what a change" then read that it was from a couple of years ago. It's so interesting how our styles can change, and then maybe be revisited/recombined with what is new to move us forward again!
Good luck on the Toronto show! Your work should be very well received. People love art where the subject matter is local, yet the treatment of it is creative and full of light.

Mmmm, Catherine, you've got a problem there with your time...unless you decide that painting IS relaxing! The iris painting is lovely, there you have reached the summit of realism and can go any direction from the excellent base of good observation! That is exactly what you are doing now with your new work.

This is SO lovely. Marvelous orange tones. Why can't iris season last six months, I say. Good luck in the mad rush for the show! My sympathies, in the same boat.
