Plein Air paintings:Young Walnut Trees and Bluff of Poplars

5x7 oil on canvas panel Sold
As promised (to myself) I ventured out into the world to do some plein air painting. Not too far from our house there is a pathway that looks over the town of Dundas towards the Niagara escarpment on the other side of the valley. I set up my makeshift easel and art supplies and had some fun. It really is like baring ones soul. There is no time for studio correction. I have a lot of respect for people who do this all the time. I hope that I can get over my shyness and will be able to paint some town scenes where there are people milling about.
I did both of these yesterday afternoon while the wind and cloud swirled around, changing views every few minutes. The Queen Annes Lace was abundant and also lots of pink clover.

I'm impressed. These are lovely paintings all while you painted with a makeshift easel and wind blowing. Well done. Don't be shy, you'll do great.

Catherine these are full of vitality and immediacy! Quite like the application in the background and movement/rythm/ patterning!

Kudos to you for venturing out..I know what you mean re building up nerve to paint where there are people..they have a habit of being too curious, invading your space and asking questions at the most inopportune times..can you find an art-pal to paint with in town? Or bring Baily with you and a sign saying 'do not pet dog' Might ward off the onlookers at the threat of dog bite:-D
* and if you're in the mood for landscape and hay bales, we are going out Tues evening in Grimsby pending weather and you are welcome to join us

These really are lovely Catherine, well done! Much as I love your rainy day paintings, I am really enjoying seeing what else you can do. Painting plein-air is a real challenge, but when I can muster up the energy and courage, I find it more satisfying than just about anything I can think of.

Can't decide which I like the best. Both have such a wonderful distinctive beauty.
