8x10 Oil on Canvas
This past weekend, I was at the juried Toronto Outdoor Art Show. In spite of the heat and rain, it was a wonderful show. The people were very gracious and positive and I enjoyed the conversations and comments. It was my first outdoor show in many years and it was a learning experience regarding presentation, framing, and pricing. There are some things that I would change for future shows.
I also met C.C.H. Pounder who played Mo'at in the movie Avatar. (Neytiri's Mom and the spirit leader) What a lovely person...and she bought some small paintings. She collects pictures of people in the rain.
In this painting, taxis head down Front Street during rush hour, the yellow umbrellas from Le Papillon Restaurant folded during the late afternoon rain.

I love this Catherine - especially the luscious brushwork in the sky!
Another great piece w/ wonderful reflections.
nice balance and compo here, and teh reflections are done so well!
you can just feel the rain in this piece. Great atmosphere.
Lovely work!
How funny- she collects pictures of people in the rain. You never know, do you? Very nice painting.
Always enjoy seeing what you come up with next, Catherine. Beauty in the rain!
just what I like...strong color, great shapes--no hesitation to put it all down with flair.
Wonderful painting, I can almost smell the rain!
your colors are so rich & alive - even in rainy-day paintings! thank you for sharing them - oh - & i adore your profile pic!!
The headlights in this create a very stormy atmosphere...love it!
Beautiful piece. Love the weather and headlights.
Wonderful! Glad you had a good time. What would you change? Love the texture on this painting!
Congrats on your show, hope it was all you hoped. I'm sure you got lots of compliments. now you can relax a little!
Glad things went so well with the show! Wonderful painting with perfect reflections.
You do it time and time again, Catherine! The lights, the movement of the city. The amount of comments will tell you that this painting is exceptional and popular!
Thanks everyone for your comments which are always appreciated!
Myra, you asked what I would change about the show. If I would have had more time, I would have had all the framing the same. I also think that it would be good to have all the pictures painted on the same surface i.e. canvas or board. The booths that had uniform presentation looked more professional.
I had a chance to see your work at the show, and I was even more impressed. I made it over to your booth just as it started raining. I was a little disappointed that I didn't see you, but then I realized that you were probably out seizing the opportunity to get some good rainy shots of Toronto.
Those moody, rain filled paintings are so nice to look at. Love the feeling.
As usual, wonderful work. Sounds like a fabulous experience and looks like you have been selling quite a few paintings. Kay
