Slivers of light,King and James, Hamilton

13x11 oil on canvas
Once upon a time, the corner of King and James was the center of Hamilton's finest stores, a wonderful cut stone city hall close by and several thriving small businesses. This corner convenience store now dominates the scene and here it is illuminated by slivers of light finding its way through buildings. After snow fall, city crews spread salt everywhere which melts the snow, creating wet streets and dirty snow banks.

Catherine, when I look at your work I always think that you absolutely OWN reflected light, wet streets, vehicles!I have yet to try doing any of those topics!

beautiful painting! I love the way that building stands out in the light! Hey CJ How do you like your new studio? What goes on in there? Got any new photos?

Nice light Catherine. How do you find time to paint and work on your house? You must organize well!!

Another incredibe work. The light and the red/green stripes really draw you in. Your urban scenes are always so interesting with cars, people moving about. Nice work!

Thanks for all of your comments. Marie, when my son was younger I got several books on how to draw cars and of course ended up drawing them myself. Those drawing books for kids are pretty good!
Myra, my studio has become partial storage space while we renovate. All the stuff has to go somewhere! As far as what goes on here...canvas prep, sorting through photos on a computer, painting, dog sleeping, picture taking, coffee drinking and sometimes wine drinking. Nothing more exciting than that :)
Mary Anne, as long as one is ok living with lots of dust and upheaval, and there is space to work, I can keep at it. I also plan ahead about what pictures I want to do next, usually keep a file of ideas I like. Also, taking lots and lots of photos helps.

Again, the winter light here is wonderful, and the way you can evoke the feeling of wet slushy streets with just a few splashed of color amazes me.
