"Crosswalk in the Rain"

11" x 14"
Oil on Canvas
I have been toying with idea of submitting a painting to International Artist magazine. I have been experimenting with painting more people..this months contest is people and figures. I don't know why I want to choose such complicated pictures....they can be extremely frustrating! Often I choose them because I like certain aspects. In this one, I liked the different reflections on the crosswalk, and of course the bright red purse.
This scene is from downtown Toronto on Yonge Street with the Hard Rock Cafe in the background. I need help with titles. I seem to have no imagination in this department! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This painting is wonderful! I love the people, the crosswalk, the umbrellas and the fantastic shadows. It is raining but there is a cheerfulness about the painting and a wonderful interplay between the lady in the pink and the little light hitting her the the red in the middle - and the couple on the end. You can stay with 'crosswalk in the rain' or 'crosswalking in the rain'. I'm sorry I don't have any ideas - I can't think without coffee! Of course go for the magazine! It's a great idea. You have wonderful, expressive paintings! Please do it!

I say go for it! I love how you tackle images with so many figures in them and such complex ones at that. Keep it up.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Go for the magazine, no harm intrying and you never know what might happen.
It is a beautiful piece. The title is fine or you could call it "Reflections" or "Pedestrian reflections" or "Walking in the Rain" OR "Crosswalk Reflections" or "Random Crossroads". I am a bit useless at naming pieces too, it always amazes me when someone comes up with the perfect title.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I think I will submit the picture. They often choose very realistic pictures as the winners, but as you say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. (You can check out last years winners at the magazine site..some of it quite spectacular)
I like "Crosswalk Reflections" as a name. More coffee, more thinking.

Enter, Enter! I think you have a number of paintings that you could put forth. They are wonderful, and being from Hamilton (now residing in Burlington) I can recognize many of your painted location. Always brings a smile to my face when I take a look and the lightbulb goes off!
Sorry I can't be of more help with the name though :-(

Hi Catherine,

I've found that both simple and complicated subjects can be frustrating, and it doesn't seem to be about the subject as much as the day. You are the superhero of this kind of scene, accept your greatness.

Fantastic painting.

Take care,

Barbara
