Paintings by Catherine Jeffrey celebrating the diverse beauty of Toronto, Hamilton, and the Golden Horse Shoe.
The glow on this is fantastic!!
I agree with Carol, the glow is wonderful...inviting you in for an evening of theatre.
REALLY nice Catherine! Love the warmth of the lights... This brings back memories of all the fantastic shows I've seen at the Royal Alex : ))
the lights beckon!...wonderful glow and subject placement
I love pictures from the city life... Your use of colours is so gentle and I absolutely agree with Kim, I feel I can actually sense the warmth! btw the picture somehow reminds me of Hopper's style, though I see it's quite different... weird :-)
Thanks for all of your comments. Hi Lorne...Thanks for the comment and also for the comparison to Hopper. Quite a few people have mentioned that my work reminds them of Hopper and the Ashcan School style in general and when I look at their work, I can see some similarities. Interesting...
I wish I had this. I would hang it in the proximity of some of your city shadows works and feel the tension. It has such a sense of city observed yet oblivious to the inspection. There used to be a TV show which was a late, late night thing, consisting of footage (may have been live footage) of driving around the night city...It was so filled with real life or the shadowy chiaroscuro (tension between light and shadow) promise of life that it enchanted me.But your paintings enchant even more. They are Fairy Tales for grown-ups.
