5x7 Oil on Board
While walking the dog on the trail this morning, I was marvelling at the magnificent fall colors at this time of year. I was also wondering if there was a way to capture the brilliance. I took some photos. Photos don't always capture the reality of what we see, but I had the scene fresh in my mind. It really was a difficult subject. I was wondering how I would put the subtle tree leaves over a wet sky. It is so important to do a lot of small studies and then take what we learn to the next image.

This is beautiful. It is really fresh looking - as if you did it right on the spot.
It really is hard to resist these Fall colours isn't it? I forget every year just how brilliant they are, almost neon. The camera really doesn't do them justice, I think that is one of the reasons I feel compelled to paint.
Beautiful colors! So fresh! I don't get to see such colors here. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers
What gorgeous colors. Kay
This is really nice Catherine. I agree with the small studies, I sometimes do my best work, and therefor learn a lot to take with me for the next. Our colors are at the golden, broonze stage now, ready to be gone@!!!!! P.S., love how your large one came out, you should be really happy!!!
Catherine, BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the colors, so unexpected from your rainy day paintings. You can do it all!!
This picture made me soooo happy! I miss the colours like that from Canada. This really seems like you had a good time painting this one, it is just making me super stoked and really, WELL DONE!
You + Me + Paris ok? You paint, I'll eat croissants and we can be pretentious about your paintings being in galleries...deal?
