Wellington Street, Toronto

8" x 10"
Oil on Canvas
I can't help it. I love rainy scenes. People say there is no color on a rainy day, but I find that in some cases, the colors are exemplified. Also, in city scenes, the light source is dramatized because of the tall buildings. I want to be brave enough to do more "smooshing" of the colors to exaggerate the wetness. Often (almost always) I am afraid to change what turned out ok. I think with experience, we become more willing to experiment and not as concerned with results.
This is Wellington Street with Toronto City Hall in the back.

For those who don't know better it might be tempting to think that it never stops raining in Toronto. Have you ever spent any time in Vancouver? You would be in your element.
This is wonderful as usual. You achieve the aerial perspective in the distant buildings beautifully and the foreground reflections are quite literally brilliant.

I was just showing my husband your blog spot and he was very impressed with your street scenes.
Once again and outstanding picture. Kay

I am the same way. I fight with myself to change what turned out okay into what is even better. Or get frustrated when I have changed something that is okay into something that is not. LOL. I do find that the constant struggle is what takes mediocre paintings to great ones and makes us want to paint another painting. If every one was perfect there would be no need to paint again. This painting is excellent - you have got me paying even more attention to rainy day reflections.

Whenever I see your rainy day paintings, I swear I also hear them. You have the ability to bring these scenes to life. Wonderful painting!

Ahhh once again you make me look at something in a way that I never would.
I guess it's raining a lot in Canada now so I hear and guess what - It hasn't rained once here. I probably jinxed it saying that but anyways I love your blog and i love the things you choose to paint and how amazing they come out.

Thank you for your advice Catherine! I'll see if I can work it out. BTW, I think you have the most clever avatar. I feel we're sitting across a cafe table chatting when you leave me a note.

Another beautiful rainy day scene. Don't ever think about stopping, you are a master of the rainy day! You do it well. I often think I would be a better painter if I could find my muse and paint it time after time instead of being all over the place. You have the golden egg!
